Do I need a new AC installation or can I repair my old one?

Just as with a vehicle, there is a cost to repair and a cost to replace. Depending on the problem and diagnosis, it may make more sense or be more cost effective to do one or the other. We’ll always present you with the cost of both options along with our recommendation and empower you to make the decision on whether you’d prefer to install a new AC unit or to repair your existing one. 

How long should an AC unit last?

With proper care and routine maintenance, an AC unit can last around 15 years. You can check the age of your air conditioner right on the unit. In most cases, there will be a metal nameplate on the side panel of the unit with the manufacture date etched in as month and year. If not specifically labeled, the date may also be encoded in the unit’s serial number. Write down the serial number and some quick investigation with Google can help you to decode the date. 

How much does an AC installation cost?

Installation of a new AC unit can run between $3,000 and 8,000. Different brands, options, and the complexity of the installation all factor into the cost. AC installation isn’t unlike buying a vehicle. You’re making a purchase of a motorized device to do that job of running like a workhorse for you year after year.

While an older unit may be near or past the warranty period, a new AC installation will give you a new manufacturer’s warranty.
